Playing Preschool / Supplies

Supplies

Playing Preschool activities use minimal and repeating supplies throughout the year of learning. Many of the items on the unit supply lists are office items or generic art supplies that you may already own.

Each unit has a variety of supplies needed with the majority of items coming from the master supply list. Additionally, the unit supply list may ask for a few household items (like a muffin tin) and 1-2 unit specific items (like apples for unit 1 or toy cars and trucks for unit 10).

Before beginning Playing Preschool, I recommended having as many items as possible from the master supply list available to use on day 1. This helps take off some of the stress from finding supplies or ordering them last minute.

Washable Tempera Paint

This is my favorite brand of paint and type of paint. Tempera paint is vibrant and dries quickly. It’s what I used as a school teacher and kept using at home.

Thin Paint Brushes

These are awesome. They’re durable, well-made, and they make painting feel fun and fancy.

Colorful Construction Paper

I like this stack of construction paper best because it comes color sorted.

White Construction Paper

White construction paper. It’s an absolute must. I should probably buy stock in white construction paper.

Kraft Paper

In Playing Preschool, I often give a choice in the activity to use kraft paper (this stuff) or white butcher paper (see below). Pick the one you think your family will get the most use out of.

Dot Stickers

All hail the dot stickers: the absolute GOAT of kid activity supplies. This is the brand that I always have on hand – don’t forget to always remove the white part off to make it easier for kids to peel.

Sticky Notes

The sticky note. What is it about them? Kids are drawn to them like moths to a flame. Sticky notes are rock stars and used throughout Playing Preschool.

Blue Painter’s Tape

It may seem like a random supply for a preschool program, but some sort of carpet or wall safe tape is a must (please note: this tape is NOT safe for hard floors. Make sure to read the label and use masking tape instead).

Pom Pom Balls

Pom pom balls make everything better. I love this bag of 300 pom pom balls – it’s gotten a lot of miles around here. Of course, pom pom balls are a choking hazard. Use good judgment and supervision for these activities especially.

Large Permanent Marker

Again, it might seem random but this trusty size of permanent marker may be used in every unit in Playing Preschool.

Glue Sticks

Purple glue sticks are the best! They’re a little like magic for kids (they make things stick together!) and another supply that’s needed for activities AND for kids to practice with before their school days.

Wet Glue

Another must: wet glue. Again, I know this can be scary but it’s really necessary that kids have a chance to use and practice with wet glue long before they head to school. It’s also a major hand-strength work out to use it.

Small White Board

For doing letter and word work in Playing Preschool, I recommend a small white board. These are easy to work with and move around to whatever space you’re teaching in.

Dry Erase Markers

My favorite set to pair with the white board: I love to use different colors when writing so I can call out specific letters easily with the change of a pen.

Playing Cards

A big time tool for math, playing cards are one of the most important repeating supplies for our math lessons.

Flashlights

We use flashlights for finding letters that are hiding. It’s a bit of a gimmick but it sure makes learning fun.

Cotton Balls

Random, yes. Used in a ton of units? Also yes. So much so that they made the “most-used” list.

Dice

Another math tool that we’re about to use on repeat: dice. I like having a ton of dice so I don’t have to worry about losing them.

Storage Container

Here’s what I put my sensory bins in. This can live under a bed, behind a couch, in the laundry room or the garage. You can also hold a lot of your activity supplies in this bin to pull out each day at the start of Playing Preschool time.
